What is it with these start pages?
When you visit plasticshore.com the system picks a random entry page from a growing selection.
This is a really fast process on the server with no recognizable time lag on the user side. From this entry page you can enter plasticshore.com (more specifically: the logfile).
This allows me to create designs outside the logfile frame and you to find a fresh site each time you visit. I can use the system to showcase specific projects or ideas, make statements of all kind and do basically whatever i want :). And it also serves as a portfolio replacement.
At the beginning there won’t be that many pages (at launch time there will be only one - so much for random selection), but i hope to generate a whole set of them over time.

i think the header needs some more thinking. I’d love to bring back the image exchange feature from version 2.
... and I have not forgotten the good old icons. I am working on that too :)

It would have been so much easier to use one of the decent packages available out there to create this page.
So why have I chosen to do it all by myself? Going through the pain to make it XHTML complient, create a valid CSS, a RSS feed, etc ...
I guess the answer lies in all the things you can not yet see. All the great plans I have for plasticshore. E.g. being able to create content pages like this on the fly. Having a place which finally might live up to the fashionable term “personal playground” - which is supporting my ideas and creative energy rather then hindering it.
I hope I’ll be able to show you what I mean soon ...

Verena visited me for the first time and we had a great but way to brief time together --- my temporarily rented room turned out to be permanent :) --- work is still great and is becoming better every day --- I was at the sea for the first time in ages and it was fantastic --- my social life is also starting up again --- so almost all is good. And the missing part hopefully won’t be amiss for to long.

it has been less than a week since I arrived in London. But it feels already so much longer. I have just moved from Julien’s place (who was so kind to help me out in the first few days) into my first own little room in the North East of London. I am also reachable by phone again (number on request).
The transition from Chicago was less effort than one might expect but was still an exhausting as much as an exciting experience.
For a break and in order to celebrate my homecoming to europe I spent a great weekend in Paris, to which wonderful David and Celia invited me. It felt very good to see so good friends after a long time. Now I am looking forward to settle in more over the next few days and to start enjoying London. (btw the picture is not mine as the camera is still broken...:(

Another thing: If you look at the url showing up at privatgelaen.de you might recognize that a “version2” has appeared where there was nothing like that before. The older (very first) version is now showing “version1” in the url. These changes are all done in order to make way for a version3, which is not yet created but scheduled to go online soon.

I have just recognized that i have created 35 pages in this logfile over the last 1.5 years. But the ten most recent entries alone (including this one) cover more then 2 month!!
Life was a little bit tough rencently but we still managed to have great times - only the daily coveraged of it suffered a little. :-)

I have bought a mobile phone finally (as the new icon by Ingo indicates). One of the features of the T610 from sony ericsson is a well working email client which is checking my regular accounts every 30 minutes now.
The provider also supports an additional email address which is transfered immediately to the phone. If you want to know that address or the phone number (it is also a regular cell phone which can be called :) ) let me know. I am not going to publish them here as i am getting my share of spam already. So much from the “new toys” category.

A little hint for you: The engine is a V8, 5 Liter. Unfortunately it is way to big for our parking lot so that we have to park it on the street for the time being. As Street Parking is a pain in the neck in our neighbourhood we need to find a solution for this as soon as possible.
Maybe it was a mistake to buy this monster but as i found out at the dealership today, it is not reversible. And it is for sure the car of my dreams :)
We have already used it to go to the indiana dunes with our friends this weekend. Seven of us were easily seated in ours the rest of the bunch went with Nic. He has also taken the great pictures (though not a single one of our car :-). Come back for more ...

more than a week ago they told me that my database was lost… my own backup was more than three month old, so I decided to take the site down and start with something new from scratch.
Today they suddenly came up with the news that somehow they were able to restore the data!!! After a depressing week spent knowing that i lost not only my website but also three month documented only in my logfile it is all back now - and I am so happy about it.
and this is not the only good news of the day :-) .....

It has been some time, but there is just not much to report. On April 9 the first birthday of plasticshore went by - unnoticed. This little site is now more than a year old. Trough it’s existence It experienced a lot of modifications and one major redesign. Thank you all for stopping by so frequently, for your interest and for your feedback through comments, guest book entries and icons.
Right now, I keep myself busy with waiting for news - which is not exactly a satisfying occupation, but the whole situation is not very satisfying as well.
(I am not saying that I am not having a good time, especially with all the friends here in Munich trying hard to cheer me up :-)

nic’s birthday and my last day

My plane to Germany leaves on the 25th, so the 24th is my last day in Chicago. It is also Nic’s bunny birthday and I wish him a happy one.
I hope I can come back to Chicago soon - I enjoyed being here, meeting new people who became friends. I look forward seeing you all again soon - though I know that some of you won’t be here anymore when I come back. But keeping contacts over long distances and around the world works - as i also look forward to meeting all my friends in Munich.

I have just picked up Verena at downtown, Chicago, where she ended up without money, bankcard and public transportation ticket after her purse was stolen from her bag in a Cafe. It means only a loss of $20 but a lot of effort since there was everything but her passport in that purse. I still hope that it will be returned once the thief has taken the 20 dollars.(Does anybody know how to replace a german drivers license in the US!?)

It is warm. The city is waking up. More people are on the streets, pleasant smells are everywhere. This and the St. Patrik’s Day made the last weekend really special. We visited the green colored Chicago River but missed the parades. We met new people and had a great time.
Today Elisa arrived from Boston. She is going to stay with us for the next week and will go back to Germany only one day before me. She is considering Chicago among other places to spent the next few years in. Let’s try to make it an easy decision :-)

have a look at this brief summary of this weekend’s sunday. it is not complete and only a rough cut made from little movies taken with my digital photo camera.
The whole weekend was full of activity. On Friday we were at a dinner party followed by a farewell party. we came home at around 3 am… We slept long on saturday then did our shopping for the week. Then we went to a bar called simon’s where we stayed again until 2 am or so… on sunday we had dim sum in the morning (chinese brunch) and watched a hockey game of the Chicago Black Hawks. We ended the weekend watching a movie at webster place.
